Officer Down Memorial Page: End of Watch Report May 2016

May 2016 saw the line of duty deaths of seven law enforcement officers in the United States.  Three of those line of duty deaths were the result of felonious gunfire, one LODD was the result of a heart attack, one was due to a motorcycle accident, one was the result of a vehicle pursuit, and one was animal-related.

These seven deaths bring the yearly total to 39, which is a 27% total decrease in comparison to this time last year.  Auto-related deaths are down by 29%, which is an encouraging trend.  Gunfire deaths, however, stand at 19 this year - making up nearly half of the total line of duty deaths so far in 2016 and up 36% over this time last year.

The Officer Down Memorial Page extends our deepest condolences to the families, friends, and agencies who lost a loved one in May 2016.
