Officer Down Memorial Page: End of Watch Report June 2016


The month of June 2016 saw eleven line of duty deaths across the country.  Two of those were due to gunfire, two to a heart attack, and seven were auto-related: 1 motorcycle accident, two car accidents, one vehicle pursuit, and three vehicular assaults. Of the eleven fallen officers who gave their lives in the line of duty in June 2016, ten were men and one was a woman.  Eleven agencies lost officers across five different states.

At the halfway point in the year, line of duty deaths stand at 51 and are, gratefully, down 21% as compared to 2015.

Officer Down Memorial Page: End of Watch Report May 2016


May 2016 saw the line of duty deaths of seven law enforcement officers in the United States.  Three of those line of duty deaths were the result of felonious gunfire, one LODD was the result of a heart attack, one was due to a motorcycle accident, one was the result of a vehicle pursuit, and one was animal-related.

These seven deaths bring the yearly total to 39, which is a 27% total decrease in comparison to this time last year.  Auto-related deaths are down by 29%, which is an encouraging trend.  Gunfire deaths, however, stand at 19 this year - making up nearly half of the total line of duty deaths so far in 2016 and up 36% over this time last year.

Officer Down Memorial Page End of Watch Report: April 2016


In April 2016, two law enforcement officers died in the line of duty in the United States; one line of duty death was the result of gunfire, and the other was the result of an automobile accident.
