The Officer Down Memorial Page (ODMP) collaborates with EOTECH to honor fallen law enforcement heroes
Together, ODMP and EOTECH designed the cards to honor 900+ U.S. Law Enforcement officers who made the ultimate sacrifice over the past five years. Each card includes an individual officer’s rank and name, along with their agency, length of service, and end of watch date. The cards feature a QR code so EOTECH customers can visit the officer’s memorial on the ODMP website.
As a leading supplier of law enforcement equipment, EOTECH shares ODMP’s interest in raising public awareness around officer deaths. By creating these memorial cards, the collaboration instills a sense of connection between the recipient and the individual officer, allowing EOTECH’s customer base to reflect on the officer’s passing and our collective loss as a nation.
“EOTECH has long been a supporter of law enforcement and felt this simple but meaningful gesture was a great way to actively show our support both for fallen law enforcement officers and highlight the positive work ODMP is doing.” states Lisa Kemp, Director of Marketing at EOTECH.
“From the start, EOTECH was proactive in reaching out to us to spearhead and launch this initiative,” states Chris Cosgriff, Executive Director of ODMP. “It’s apparent that EOTECH understands the risks that our law enforcement officers face every day and shares our desire to inform the public about the dangers these heroes face during each shift. Memorializing these officers honors their memories and brings comfort to their loved ones. We are so pleased that EOTECH has offered to help us introduce our mission to their customers.”
About the Officer Down Memorial Page
Founded in 1996, the Officer Down Memorial Page (ODMP) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to honoring the memory of law enforcement officers who have died in the line of duty. The largest law enforcement memorial in the United States, ODMP pays tribute to over 24,000 fallen law enforcement officers in its online memorial and Reflection pages. ODMP also honors fallen police canines, provides free resources to law enforcement agencies and officers, and works to keep cop killers behind bars through its No Parole for Cop Killers program. ODMP tracks line of duty death statistics in the U.S. back to 1786, enabling the law enforcement community to analyze trends and patterns in order to work toward the goal of improving officer safety. End of Watch Report December 2020
In the final month of 2020, a total of 26 law enforcement officers died in the line of duty. Of those line of duty deaths, 19 were the result of COVID, 4 were the result of gunfire (3 felonious, 1 inadvertent), 2 were auto-related (1 motorcycle crash, 1 struck by vehicle), and 1 was the result of 9/11-related cancer.
The final number of line of duty deaths in 2020 currently stands at 304, which is more than double the 2019 total. Without doubt, 2020 was the deadliest year for law enforcement in almost a century. The last time annual line of duty deaths topped 300 was in 1932.
In addition, a further 200+ potential line of duty COVID deaths are still pending verification, which means that 2020 may end up being the deadliest year for law enforcement in all of U.S. history.
The Officer Down Memorial Page extends our condolences to the families, friends, and agencies who lost a loved one to a line of duty death. We ask our supporters to take a moment to read the memorials of those officers who died in the line of duty in December 2020 and remember the fallen.
