In 2017, a total of 135 law enforcement officers died in the line of duty in the United States. We've created a visual representation of the details of those LODDs in order to promote a better understanding of the how, where, and why of line of duty deaths.
Some takeaways:
- 135 officers died across the country: 126 of those officers were male, 9 female
- 55% of LODDs were felonious
- Seven incidents nationwide resulted in multiple line of duty deaths
